Laut Loud (((~~~)))
A series of online concerts aboard the cultural sailing vessel Arka Kinari
On each sailing season, the crew of Arka Kinari collaborates with local curators and filmmakers to archive rare and disappearing musics and music-driven rituals from barely charted ports across the Nusantara archipelago.
Ranging from politically-controversial traditional dances to avant-garde underground raves, we reposition these sounds on performances atop the sea and amplifies hyper-local expressions of sound in a free online archive.
The first season of Laut Loud was shot in Bali and were curated by acclaimed producer and musician Aditya Surya Taruna (Kasimyn, Hulubalang, Gabber Modus Operandi) and featured contemporary expressions of Balinese traditional sounds.
The second season of Laut Loud was shot in Sumba, and were co-curated with cultural activist and fabric researcher Nensi Dwi Ratna. Exploring the fringes of jungga, the season showcases traditional singer-storyteller music from the far Eastern archipelago.
The third season onwards of Laut Loud are curated by Filastine & Nova along with roving crew members Hibatul Hakim & Raka Ibrahim, and follows Arka Kinari on its voyages across the grimy ports of Java, among the ecological conflicts of Sulawesi, into Maluku's long shadow of post-colonial violence, and onwards into ports unknown.
